Diagnostics

Because our pets can’t tell us where it hurts or why they aren’t feeling well, diagnostic measures are a critical component to the diagnosis and treatment of your pet when they are feeling down. With a full in house laboratory to help our Veterinarians diagnose and treat, we will get your pet on the mend! Diagnostic services offered in clinic include Digital Radiographs, Ultrasonography, & In Clinic Blood Work equipment.

Ultrasound

While x-rays are great for visualizing bones and evaluating the position and  shape of organs, ultrasound allows us to look inside an organ or fluid-filled cavity such as a bladder, uterus or gallbladder. The veterinarian may recommend either or both modalities to visualize what is happening inside your pet.

Digital X-rays (Radiology)

Radiology has come a long way since the first use of medical x-rays in 1896. Technological advances have improved the quality and safety of x-rays. At Caring Hands Animal Hospital, we utilize digital x-rays  to obtain very detailed images with every view. Radiographs are most commonly used to check the bony structures of your pet for breaks, arthritic changes, or other abnormalities. Radiographs can also be used to look at the internal organs within your pet. Positioning a pet for x-rays can cause them to become very fearful because they do not understand what we are doing, or what we are asking of them. It can also require manipulation of painful limbs. For this reason, when the veterinarian recommends radiographs, they usually also include sedation for your pets’ procedure. This sedation allows pets to relax, thus reducing pain and preventing  fear-based responses that require repeat images. Your pet will be monitored during the procedure by a trained and skilled technician as well as with electronic monitoring equipment.

In-House Laboratory

Although we utilize a referral laboratory for most routine bloodwork and specialty tests, if we need to know why your pet is sick now, we will utilize our in-house laboratory. This allows us to have the results of many tests in 10 to 20 minutes so we can quickly get answers as to why your pet may not be feeling its best. Knowing why your pet is not feeling well, helps to guide us in the proper treatment for your pet.
